Shelter from the Storm

In this small documentary festival, we have selected six films that show how people build homes, safe havens and hospitable neighborhoods as refuge and protection from social tempests and the vicissitudes of love. In The Road, they build communities of resistance during a collision course with national ideology, government policy and the economic interests of private and public industries. In Kelly and Fish Story, children from immigrant families both rich and poor build networks of support under the pressure of Hong Kong’s stratified education system. In Haoqi and Shin, Papa Rainbow and Jesus Died for Somebody’s Sins, we examine queer families and hidden habitats that stand firm even in the face of social pressures.
This festival is produced in partnership with CNEX Foundation Ltd. as part of their 2016 Documentary Screening Tour "Dissolution and Restoration of Love."
